Pousada Irmã Lua

The setting is beautiful, right by a beach with natural pools and colorful fish among the corals. The pousada has a bar area on the sand, but it doesn't match the photos they posted. There were no cushioned loungers or the "heart" photo spot. Check-in was very late. We waited a long time for the room key, and the pool stayed dirty throughout my entire stay even after I asked for it to be cleaned, so nobody could use it. The room's mini fridge was old and rusty. The TV didn't work, and when I asked for maintenance they brought a new one, but the family in the other room didn't get a TV and had to go without one. The staff were very polite and helpful, but there was too much work for too few people. There was only one person cleaning all the rooms, so it felt more like a quick tidy-up than a proper clean. Breakfast was the worst part for me: no variety at all, the food was barely tasty, and it seemed as though they made one kind of pie and divided it into portions. I had to force myself to eat. There were lots of flies in the breakfast area too. This pousada has a lot of potential and a good amount of space, but it needs effective management, staff training, more people, better organization and cleaning, and renovations. Even guests paying more for rooms get much the same experience as in the basic rooms, which wasn't good. There was no sea view because a fence covered with plants blocked it. I hope they put this feedback into practice.

The beach in front of the pousada is beautiful and calm, with little activity, and the employees are friendly. The rest was disappointing. The pousada feels abandoned, and check-in times aren't respected. We didn't get our room key until after 16:00 because just one employee was cleaning all the rooms. As a result, the cleaning was only basic, and towels weren't changed. The pool was always dirty. The room TV didn't work, and even after we requested a replacement, the problem wasn't fixed. Breakfast was very basic, and items weren't always replenished as they ran out. Sometimes there weren't enough plates, cutlery, or cups, and there weren't enough tables for everyone. There were also lots of flies in the breakfast area. The restaurant was poor, the food lacked seasoning, and so many flies gathered there that it was off-putting. The pousada has a good structure, but it needs urgent management changes because it feels neglected. I wouldn't return or recommend it.

The place itself is beautiful, and the beach is wonderful, but the rooms were awful. The curtains were torn, the bathroom smelled like sewage, the sheets were old, and the towels were stained. The pools were dirty every day we stayed, and breakfast was worse than at the little roadside hotels: hardly any choices, no variety, and slow refills. We booked two rooms, one for my husband and me and one for my mother and daughter. My mother's room was in terrible shape, and neither the TV nor the shower worked. My husband had to replace the shower and the TV for them. A guest had to fix all of that, what a mess! The waiters André and Felipe were great, and the cleaning ladies were kind, but they even left a dead cockroach in my mother's room. It was a terrible experience. We travel to barra grande every year, but never to this pousada again!

The breakfast had plenty of tasty choices, and our room was really comfortable. We were a couple visiting, and from the moment we arrived, the owner and staff made us feel at home with their warmth and attention. Pousada Irmã Lua is lovely and so well looked after, with an incredible feel to it and a breathtaking view of Praia da Bombaça, one of the prettiest beaches we’ve seen. We had an unforgettable few days and will definitely come back.
