VOA Mirante Do Café

We loved the place. The rooms are basic but spacious, with huge windows looking out over beautiful mountains, and we woke to birds singing loudly. Breakfast was a generous, typical Minas Gerais spread, with coffee grown on the farm. We’re used to insects, so they didn’t make our stay worse, and the negative review above doesn’t ring true to us. If you’re going to nature, respect the local environment and recognize the value of the people who live there. The city is welcoming, too. We recommend Bar do Jorge for tilapia and a cold beer. Another lovely memory, and I’d recommend staying here. ♡

The manager hung up on me and blocked me when I tried to report the bedbugs I got after spending a night without power at this pousada. The sink was dirty, and the soap was broken in half. The shower was awful, just one drop after another, and the sheets were too small to cover the mattress, leaving part of it exposed. There’s no phone in the room, so to ask reception for help you have to leave and find someone. The toilet seat is so narrow that when you sit down, you end up touching the toilet itself. If you think you owe life a debt, spend a night here and it’ll surely be paid. And if you’re allergic to bedbugs, better stay away.

The main drawback is the lack of a water dispenser. You can only buy small bottles at reception or bring water from a supermarket. Otherwise, it’s a peaceful, quiet place to rest, set on a hill at an old coffee farm. The rooms are simple but have the basics, and breakfast is simple, good, and complete. There’s a pool, though we didn’t use it because it was cold.

I loved it. A wonderful view and an incredible sunset, and it’s close to Ouro Preto. Great for getting away from the urban chaos.
