Pousada Naus de Paraty

Awesome.

The kitchen staff were warm and attentive, and breakfast tasted good. We stayed for two nights over a weekend. The room was clean when we arrived, and the air conditioning did what we expected. We didn't use the pool, but it looked clean, as did the shared areas. The bed was two single beds pushed together, not a double. The location is fairly close to the center, though the area felt deserted at night. The parking is nearby but on a separate property. There was almost never anyone at reception when we came by.

The location is good, close to the center, and the price was reasonable. Everything was clean and tidy. But rooms at the same price don't all have the same standard, some have a TV, air conditioning, or a better shower while others don't. Parking is on another street, and guests have to open the gate themselves and bring the key back to reception. Security didn't feel good, and I found the staff rather unreceptive. One time I came back from an outing and found my shampoo in the bathroom diluted with water, as if someone had topped it up. I complained at reception, but they didn't pay much attention or get back to me.

The night attendant was very kind to me, but I wouldn't return or recommend the place. My room was large and comfortable, with a nice bed, though it was far too bright. The internet didn't reach the room, and cleaning wasn't great, there was a clump of hair in the bathroom drain. The bathroom window faced another room, and late one night people there played loud music that sounded like it was inside mine. Breakfast was really poor for the nightly price, disorganized, and things kept running out. When I checked out, the woman said she'd inspect the room, which is normal. While I carried my bags to the car parked a little way down, the manager came after me pretending to be on the phone, apparently checking I wasn't running off. I felt like a thief, and found that behavior from someone calling herself a manager extremely unpleasant and out of line. The parking area was in the middle of the brush, and there was nobody to open the gate. It would have been fairer to say they had no parking.
