Albergue Piratas do Sol - Hostel

The owner is extremely disrespectful. Security cameras seem to lead to constant, accusatory WhatsApp messages. The hotel was full and very hot, but air conditioning was only allowed at certain times, even when I politely explained I wasn't feeling well. Using fans wasn't allowed either.

The cleanliness was spotless, and everything was neatly arranged. The location is convenient and the service was very good. I'll stay there again the next time I'm in Recife. A perfect score from me.

The location and Wi-Fi were the highlights for me. I've stayed twice, one night each time, and the staff were incredibly friendly. I had a very comfortable four-bed women's dorm with air conditioning. Its private bathroom was out in the hallway, but it was clean, roomy, and convenient. There was also a terrace kitchenette with the basics for coffee or a simple meal, and the place had everything I needed to unwind.

The hostel is clean, in a good location, and has lockers with keys. Bring mosquito repellent, though, because there are lots of mosquitoes in the rooms. The bed was uncomfortable and the pillow too high. The listing says there's a supermarket 200 meters away, but there isn't one. The owner, Cássia, was rude and unreasonable about the air conditioning. She wanted it on every night to keep mosquitoes away, even when everyone in the room asked her not to. The old unit gets very cold, and she controls it remotely from her house, so there's no way to turn the temperature down. That leaves you choosing between heat and mosquitoes or shivering all night. The walls are covered with restrictions, and the place doesn't feel welcoming. Soon after I arrived, I met two guests who had moved from another hostel. Their room got sun all day, and they had been given a cramped bathroom with no hot shower. That room is on the third floor and sounds like an even worse deal, so don't accept it. A French woman also moved her trip to Olinda earlier because she didn't want the air conditioning turned on every night, while Cássia insisted on it. It was a very uncomfortable situation, especially since the people sleeping in the room are the ones affected, but she wanted to decide the temperature.
