The owners, Rômulo and Lucy, were especially kind and attentive. Their knowledge of the area added a lot to my visit, with tips on places to see and interesting details about local culture and history. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always smiling. Breakfast each morning was a highlight, with plenty of fresh local ingredients and a good variety. I stayed at this lovely bed and breakfast in Alter do Chão last weekend, and from the warm welcome when I arrived, it became an experience I’ll remember for years.

The people are what make Vila Flor stand out. The whole team was welcoming, attentive without being stuffy, and professional while still friendly, charming, and fun. The place itself is beautiful, and the breakfast was fantastic. I found out the cakes and pastries are homemade from family recipes, which gives them a personal touch. I’ve stayed in all sorts of places while traveling across several continents, from campsites to five-star hotels, and Vila Flor is one of the few where I left wanting to return. And I can’t forget the outdoor shower. I’d come back just for that.

It’s a beautiful place with people who really care. The setting is quiet, surrounded by nature, with only a few guests and a lovely view. It isn’t cheap, but it’s very comfortable. You can walk to the beach in 15 minutes, passing several restaurants and shops. After dinner, we especially liked coming back for a quiet swim in the pool. Romulo made us feel welcome right away and was quick and easy to communicate with. Frank, a driver he recommended, was already waiting when we arrived at the airport. Romulo also helped organize our boat trip with Pitó, get discounted tickets for the return on a slow boat, and make sure we had everything we needed. We’d gladly stay again.

The view outside is the only decent thing to enjoy here, so that earns the one star. The rooms have spiders, roaches, and other insects, and the place is far too expensive for both Brazilian and foreign budgets. The photos make it all look amazing, but the owner from Belém do Pará is useless at public relations and needs customer service training.

This is one of the most memorable places I’ve stayed, among the top 3 or 4 from my travels to more than 50 countries. It’s a special place, and I’d love to return soon. The property is kept up well without being overly manicured, and it feels in harmony with the surrounding nature. Staff are welcoming, and the relaxed atmosphere makes it easy to unwind. If you want a beer, take one from the fridge and write it down. We had an unusual request for laundry, and they were happy to help. The Brazilian breakfasts were excellent, with local fruit juices, tapioca pancakes, freshly baked cake, and eggs every day. Expect comfortable, spacious rooms and good air conditioning, where we slept very well, along with a delightful freshwater pool. There are no chemicals in the water, and it’s changed every couple of days. The location is private, up a hill on the outskirts of town, with wonderful views of the jungle and Rio Tapajós. Serra Piroca is framed by the surrounding trees, and the breeze is welcome when other parts of town feel hot. Don’t come expecting luxury or formality. I’m almost reluctant to tell too many people about it, but I’d like Romulo and the team to keep enjoying the success they deserve. Highly recommend. I’d give it a sixth star if I could.
