Pousada das Águias

I booked and paid for three days, but stayed only two. When I went to settle the second day, the owner said I was 30 minutes too late and wouldn't close it out as my second day. I had already told them I was leaving on the second day, but they still refused to refund the third day's payment. The owner, who says he's a lawyer, threatened me. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. People speak badly of it. He can't even talk things through, and just because he's a lawyer, what does that mean...?

I've stayed at this inn twice now and only have good things to say. Everything is very clean and organized, and the service is impeccable. The two women at reception are lovely. Breakfast is simple but good, with what you need. It's in the historic center, close to everything, so you can walk to the historic sites. I'll gladly stay here a third time when I return to São Luís. Highly recommend it!

The price is really good, but the service wasn't. Whenever one employee's shift ended, things got chaotic. They didn't pass along what had been discussed, which caused trouble for guests. My stay wasn't a good experience. The beds aren't the best, but you can get some sleep.

The staff were kind, and the room had air conditioning. The coffee was disappointing, including the drink of the same name, which tasted bad and seemed carelessly made. The old mansion has mold and damp spots, and the cleaning is very poor, so don't stay here if you have respiratory allergies. The central location also feels unsafe at night. I'd choose Calhau instead, since the waterfront there is busier.
