Reviver Hostel

That 200-year-old building was an unforgettable place to stay in Brazil, with high ceilings and loads of space. The location in the heart of the Historical Center was excellent. During my trip of more than 2.5 months in Brazil, this was the best hostel I stayed in. Breakfast had a great range, too. Highly recommend! 👍👍👍

There were lots of common areas and bathrooms, and the Wi-Fi worked well. My room's air-conditioning stayed on, which made it really comfortable. Breakfast was quite nice. I had to move out once it got full, but I would have stayed longer.

The beds were comfy, the facilities were nice, and breakfast was good. The bathrooms were okay, but at night there was a really bad smell, maybe because it's an old building. I had to work for two days during my stay, and getting help was frustrating. There weren't enough outlets in the common areas, so I asked for an extension cord and was told they didn't have one. When I asked where I could sit near an outlet, they didn't know. The internet in the historic center was poor, which I understand, so I asked about coworking spaces and got told to Google it. I asked to speak with the manager about my situation and left my number, but he never got back to me. At the end of my stay, all the Ubers were cancelling, and I needed help getting a taxi. They just gave me a number to call. As a tourist who doesn't speak the language, know the city, or have a local phone carrier for calls, I expected front desk staff to help. I'm also a hostel owner, and my own staff would have called to order the taxi.

We found street parking right in front of the hostel, even though it was fully booked. It was Saturday afternoon during the Covid-19 crisis, so most old-city shops were closed. The location in the old city is excellent. Our first-floor room had a double bed, a single bed, and a tiny side desk that was fine for a laptop or tablet. The AC was powerful, and the TV was good. The bathrooms were modern and new, among the best I've seen in a hostel. Check-in was very quick and easy, and the guy at reception helped carry our bags upstairs. Breakfast was all-you-can-eat and decent, with Bolo de milho, pão de queijo, bolo de queijo, melão, papaya, scrambled eggs, suco de cajá, tapioca, café e leite. Clean rooms, a great location, and good breakfast make this a big yes if you're traveling on a budget.
