Soul Hostel

The staff are the best in the world. The handsome Colombian guy is the coolest, most laid-back person you'll meet, with a heart of gold. He gives the place such a relaxing energy, like nowhere else I've been.

I arrived after a long night bus at 8 a.m., a bit before check-in. I knew my room might not be ready and was fine with that. I just wanted to sit on the couch and use my phone, but staff said I couldn't stay anywhere in the hostel until check-in, not even in the common area. It was freezing outside, and they wanted me to wait outdoors, which also felt unsafe. I thought the staff member was joking because I had a reservation, but when I asked again he said, “you are taking too much space for the other guests.” I was shocked. I wanted to cancel, but they wouldn't allow it because they wanted the money. I left anyway. They charge to store your luggage for a few hours, so be aware if you need that. Breakfast looked awful, just juice and cookies. I definitely don't recommend this place. Go somewhere else.

They had an available bed but wouldn't let me check in early, even in the off season. That's a pet peeve because it wastes valuable time. After the bed bug issue, though, I had to write a review. I sent video evidence to the number they provided, and they didn't even offer to reimburse me for the one night.

The dorm I stayed in was full of bed bugs. I told the staff and the owner, but got no apology and no refund offer. I had to demand one, and the staff were very rude, as if I shouldn't be asking for a refund. I had a tour early the next morning and needed time to find somewhere else, but they wouldn't let me leave my bag in storage. They wanted to charge me to use a secured locker too. The daytime reception staff don't speak English, and all the guests were Brazilian, not travelers. There was no hostel atmosphere at all. This was the worst hostel experience I've ever had. DO NOT BOOK this place.
