Pelyang Boutique

The staff were very friendly and did their best to help, and the room was clean and spacious. The shower had strong pressure and plenty of hot water. The buffet didn’t really suit our taste. One night they served fish with so many tiny bones it was practically impossible to eat. Service could be better too, as the team’s internal communication seemed lacking. For instance, they forgot the breakfast bag we had double-checked the night before. The hotel is near the old city centre.

The meals got a little chaotic when the hotel was busy, and some dishes ran out quickly, but we still had a good stay overall. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and the traditional architecture has lots of lovely wooden details. We stayed at Pelyang Boutique for two nights while visiting Thimphu, and found it easy to walk to markets and shops nearby.

I was really disappointed by my stay at Pelyang Boutique Hotel and would never recommend it. The staff treated us very badly. They seemed to give more attention to guests from the USA and other foreign countries, while treating Indian guests poorly. I had booked a spa appointment the day before, but they cancelled it without telling me because they were giving a session to someone from the USA. I waited at the spa for 15 minutes and called out, but no one responded. Later, they called to say they could only give me half an hour because they had another appointment, and blamed me for not arriving on time, which wasn’t true. At the buffet, they were busy helping guests from the USA and asked Indian guests to sit in a corner. I experienced this racism only at Pelyang Boutique Hotel; people throughout the rest of Bhutan were very warm toward us.

The building seemed quite new, and it was clean throughout. Our room was cosy, and all the staff were pleasant. We stayed two nights, and after long days out, it was so nice to come back to a hot shower with excellent water pressure.
