Mokoro Lodge

The rooms were my favorite part: simple, spacious, and charming. Mine had a decent-sized refrigerator and a kitchen sink, though no stove. Since the lodge is motel-style, each room also has its own carport for parking. Staff were fun and professional, as is usually the case in Botswana, and I liked them all. Mokoro Lodge sits back from a fairly busy main road, about 3-4 km from the center of Maun, such as it is. That distance from the road gives it a fairly isolated feel. It seems better suited to a stay longer than one night, perhaps a family reunion over several days. The only downside was eating there. Dinner took over half an hour even though I was the only customer, and I wondered if they’d ordered it from somewhere else. Breakfast wasn’t special either. The restaurant experience was the only negative.

For my business trip, the stay worked perfectly. The rooms were clean and had WiFi, and there’s a pool, though I’m not sure it’s usable. A restaurant serves breakfast and dinner.

Check-in was hassle-free, and the staff were courteous. The room was excellent, clean, and had a good bed, coffee, and facilities. Being able to park right outside the door is perfect when you’re overlanding and stopping for one night.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, which made the stay pleasant. The rooms are basic but clean and functional, and the air conditioning is a real plus. Reception and the restaurant have what you need. It’s a nice, safe place to sleep over, though I wouldn’t necessarily choose it for a holiday. The pool area could use some maintenance or a facelift.
