Mariposa Jungle Lodge

Being so close to Caracol was a real bonus, and the lodge and nearby area made a lovely setting. Our birding group had a fantastic stay at Mariposa. The spacious rooms made it easy to watch and listen to wildlife. Staff were friendly, attentive, and quick to respond to our requests. I’d happily recommend this place.

The lodge sits on beautiful grounds, and we felt safe and welcome throughout our three nights there, Feb 26-29. Our young child loved the pool and library, while we appreciated having a private cabina with a screened-in hammock area. We saw Toucans outside our room and heard howlers at night. There’s also a bird tower and trails. It’s a great spot for relaxing or being close to nature, but there’s no TV. Leo, our concierge, made the stay especially memorable. He shared a lot about Belize’s history and places to see, and his guidance was useful when we were choosing excursions. He was also kind to our four-year-old. We’d planned to visit the Xunantunich ruins, but I really wanted to see Caracol and worried about the long, remote drive with our child. Leo told us the road had been paved and offered to have lunch packed for us. That put my mind at ease. The drive was beautiful, the ruins were amazing, and the lunch was just right. We had dinner and breakfast at the lodge, both good, though we’d also suggest trying local food. The San Ignazio Market is worth visiting, especially on a Saturday. We hope to come back someday.

We had a 10/10 stay at Mariposa Jungle Lodge. The grounds were kept up really well, and the food was top notch. Staff were super hospitable, answered our questions, and were happy to accommodate requests. It’s a great choice for a special occasion or weekend away, and I’d highly recommend it.

We had a great time visiting the Mayan sites with Leo, our tour guide. He knew so much about Belizean history and culture, and he’s the best guide we’ve had on our travels. 10/10. The kitchen and bar service was especially amazing, and everyone made the experience a pleasure. Leo deserves a raise. I can’t say enough good things about the trip.
