Martha's Inn

John Sr and John Jr were lovely and helpful, breakfast was a nice touch, and our room was very clean when we arrived. The location is central too. Still, we were really disappointed by the service and hospitality from some other staff, including Martha. We chose this place because of the good reviews, but several miscommunications followed, and we left a day early to stay somewhere we felt more comfortable, even though we'd paid for the night at Martha's. The issues involved paying for our airport shuttle directly instead of at reception and asking to rent towels for our ATM cave tour. It also seemed to matter that we hadn't booked the cave tour through them. We felt disrespected and were surprised, especially since everyone else we'd met in Belize had been so welcoming and friendly.

Everyone in town calls this the best breakfast spot, and I agree. The traditional Belizean food is good, and the lunch choices are great too, from stew chicken to ox tail. Martha's is a must-stay for us. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the attached kitchen and laundromat were convenient. They made sure we had an amazing stay.

The breakfast was good, with a $20BZ credit at the cafe next door. My room was clean and nicely decorated, with what I took to be local art and textiles. But there are lots of stairs, no lift, and no help with bags. The bathroom was tiny, and we never got hot water during our stay. It was raining, so maybe the system runs on solar.

We booked at the last minute after staying late in San Ignacio, and I was happy with the experience. The rooms have a unique feel, and the price is pretty affordable.
