Leslie made our birding and Mayan site visits especially memorable. He could pick out a bird that was only a speck high in a tree or the sky, imitate its calls to draw it closer, and explain the history and meaning of Caracol and Xuanantunich (likely misspelled). He was also a relaxed, lovely companion over the several days we spent together. The staff were warm and generous with their knowledge and time, and the rooms were clean and spacious. We loved the vegetable and herb garden, which the restaurant used so well in its meals. The lodge sits in dense jungle, with wildlife all around and birdsong constantly in the background. It’s a beautiful place, and I hope to return to Mystic River Resort. Thank you!

The room looked out over the river, and the jungle setting was beautiful and peaceful. It rained most of our stay, so I was glad there was a fireplace where we could dry some clothes. We didn’t use the pools because it was cool and wet, but the pool areas looked nice. Food was good, with a range of choices. Breakfast offered a light continental option as well as items to order; we went with the continental breakfast. We also took one tour, and the guide was great, drove us there, and knew the subject well. The bar is in its own area, separate from the dining room. A few things to know: heavy rain had damaged the road, and it was rough. Our cheap rental car made it, but be prepared. The food can be a little pricey, though having a car makes it easy to go into town. I think prices are pretty similar at most secluded jungle lodges, and the variety helped.

We had a lovely January stay at the start of our honeymoon, and would happily come back. The staff and people were wonderful, always friendly and glad to help or chat. Even our shuttle drivers were warm and welcoming, and we enjoyed talking with them. They also washed our muddy shoes after an expedition. We had a spacious, clean room over the river, where seeing and hearing the wildlife felt magical. The complimentary sugar scrub was a nice extra. The pool was a decent size for lounging and splashing, and was nearly empty when we went. It’s handy for cave trips, birdwatching, and going into town by taxi for dinner. The rocky road to the hotel makes for an uncomfortable few minutes. Meals were mixed, some good and some not so good, but it was convenient to have nourishing breakfasts before day trips and dinners in town. We missed out on a room with a balcony plunge pool, so hopefully we can try one next time. Thanks for a lovely stay.

It’s about 30 minutes from busy San Ignacio, right beside the Macal River. The sound of the water in the morning and at night, along with the birds, made it feel so peaceful. Staff can arrange rides wherever you want to go, and we loved the restaurant food.

Seeing all the wildlife around the property made every walk feel like an adventure, and the river setting was magical. We woke to the sound of the water, surrounded by greenery and animals. The rooms were beautiful, with big windows and a comfortable mix of modern touches and rustic style. The staff welcomed us warmly and kept finding things for us to do, from exploring the grounds to joining tours or just enjoying the surroundings. Oscar, our tour guide, was a standout: enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the local environment. The night tour was especially unforgettable, with spiders and exotic birds among the wildlife we spotted. A wonderful mix of comfort, nature, and adventure.
