Oceanus Cabanas

A great, spacious cabana with all the amenities, air conditioning, cable, and internet. There’s a nice Caribbean breeze, and the beach is right at your doorstep. It’s ideal for a romantic getaway, or if you just want to be alone or get some work done.

It was horrible, and I’ve never had a worse stay at an air b and b. The place was filthy: a dirty sink, sand on the floors from the previous residents, and blood stains on both beds and pillowcases. There were huge ants everywhere, and they gave me bug spray for them. Sand fleas covered the beach, and now my family and I are covered in bites. Please don’t go there!

The cabanas were great, with Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a TV, so after a couple of days off the grid you can get a comfortable night’s sleep. I felt pretty secure with the extra locks and made sure not to stay in Dangriga after sunset. The beach area by the cabanas wasn’t quite what I expected. There were lots of ants, and there were so many in the sand that it was impossible to stand there or relax on the beach. You’d probably be okay if you went straight into the water.

The mattress was excellent, the shower was wonderful, and there are hammocks and beach chairs. The shower gives you a real back-to-nature feeling while still being private. Joerdy, the local manager, was wonderful, and Eras the caretaker was helpful. I missed getting to talk with the concierge, who was off, though I heard she’s an expert. This was exactly what I was looking for: peaceful, with only the little clip-clap of the sea and birds singing. It feels remote, yet it’s a 10-minute drive to Dangriga village and five minutes from the main road to great activities. A car is better, but taxis are available. There were a few flies, but as I’d been advised, coconut oil mixed with Vicks worked perfectly. Management also leaves spray and a coil to burn. Trust me, if you want a peaceful, remote stay with family or as a couple, Oceanos is two steps from the shallow sea, and it’s not a dream.
