Hotel Universel Alma

Hotel Universel Alma worked really well for the multi day conference I attended. The spacious conference rooms had no noticeable shortcomings, and the guest rooms were just as roomy, immaculately clean, and seemingly recently renovated. Staff were genuinely friendly as well as nice, which made the whole stay welcoming. The location is handy, with coffee shops, bakeries, restaurants, and pubs nearby. GPS didn't take me straight to the main entrance, a small inconvenience given how accessible the hotel otherwise is. Hotel Universel Alma lived up to its reputation and commitments, with its location, facilities, and rooms making it a good fit for business or leisure travel.

The river view was lovely, and having covered parking and a convenient location was handy. There are plenty of local restaurants within walking distance, though the on site restaurant is convenient too. The rooms are nice, and the bathrobes are great. The pool was there, but the hot tub was only lukewarm and should be hotter. I skipped the gym because it looked small and cramped. I couldn't see any gym or yoga mats, and the 20lb dumbbells were missing.

Nice hotel in a good spot. For a great river view, choose an even numbered room on floor 2. I only had two complaints: the sheets aren't fitted, so by morning I ended up sleeping on the bare mattress. Also, the ice from the machine had little black specks in it, which can only mean one thing.

The staff were great, and each spoke at least a little English, which worked perfectly for me. My room was comfortable and the jacuzzi tub was great, but it could have had better ventilation since smells lingered, and the temperature was hard to control.
