Hotel Nouvelle Frontière

Honestly, it’s a nice family-owned hotel, and they’re very accommodating. They let me check in early, which meant a lot after a 10-hour drive. The French can be very blunt, so don’t take that as rudeness. They’re really nice people.

The rooms were comfortable, but being right beside the main road meant the floor sometimes shook when a heavy truck went by. I stayed four nights, and the rooms weren’t cleaned daily. It also wasn’t pleasant to have a cleaning cart parked outside my door for all four nights. The advertised “American breakfast” was a letdown. The night before, we were asked to choose items, then got a brown paper bag with juice, yogurt, a muffin, and a microwave breakfast sandwich. When we asked for coffee, we were told to buy it at the gas station connected to the hotel. For the next three mornings, we ate at a local café called William instead, and it was very good.

The photos gave me the wrong impression. This place felt rough and more like a motel than a hotel, with an old bathroom, a dated room, and a strange smell. There were potato chips all over the floor, plus stains and bugs on the inside of the back patio door. The door was falling apart and barely locked. The room also shook violently whenever 18-wheelers passed on the main road right beside it. Staff greeted me smelling strongly of cigarettes and barely acknowledged me. I wasn’t expecting much given the remote location, but this was far worse than I expected from the pictures.

I booked a week ahead, but when I arrived that night the room hadn’t been cleaned. The beds had been slept in, and there was garbage and pop in the toilet. I asked for a refund the next day, but they charged me for another night instead. It took a whole month for me to get my money back. The rooms are small, the walls are thin, and I don’t recommend staying here.
