We booked the whole house and were very disappointed. Every room was dirty: hair in the showers, cobwebs everywhere, a spoiled garbage smell, questionable stains on the linens, and old food chips plainly visible under furniture. The building felt dingy and run down despite the website's claim of new renovations. In one upstairs room, turning on the tub sent water through the ceiling into the dining room. There were cracked walls, burned-out bulbs, stained baseboards, chipped paint, and doors that didn't work properly. For the price, even with a group discount, it wasn't worth it. Staying there made me feel gross. The owner's petty reply says a lot. I wasn't the person who booked, and there was no staff around all weekend, so I couldn't reach out. Our room hadn't been checked even though we hung the clean tag on the door. I'd repeatedly told the people who booked, and every room was dirty even though we arrived after 3:00 pm, the standard check-in time. I understand a house built in the 1860s won't be perfect, but the website says the inn is newly renovated, and it clearly wasn't. The website also says the ‘Preston’ is under renovation and unavailable, but we were put in it anyway. All the one-star reviews are deserved.

Of the three inns and two B&Bs I stayed at during a 10-day trip, Carlisle House was the biggest letdown and worst value by far. The website promised a newly renovated inn, but the owner seemed to cut corners. Paint had been applied to windows and walls without surface prep, leaving dried drips and other flaws; the windows couldn't be opened, and paint was already peeling from the walls, ceiling, and trim. One window had no screen, and the other screen had a huge round hole. The bathroom floor was stained sheet vinyl or linoleum, cut poorly and ill-fitting. There were spiders in my room and bathroom, plus solid cobwebs between a wall and the headboard. Dust was so thick I wiped surfaces before unpacking. The rugs felt dirty after vacuuming and badly needed professional cleaning with soap and water to remove decades of grime. Most chairs and couches needed new foam padding too. I emailed and called twice before arriving, but the owner never sent written confirmation with the price. At checkout she tried to charge far more than the prices I'd seen online. On the positive side, three employees did their best to help, and the breakfasts were good.

Mornings started with a huge breakfast of fresh fruit, delicious pastries, and a substantial meal that kept us going until mid-afternoon. The rooms were spacious, with private bathrooms and beautiful hardwood floors. Window air conditioners helped on the hot, muggy summer nights. A lovely B&B with a knockout breakfast. I'd definitely recommend it!

Breakfast was amazing, with sweets, scones, spreads, fruit, a yoghurt parfait, eggs, bacon, and toast. They also accommodated my lactose sensitivity. Teresa, the proprietor, was very friendly and had helpful insights about the area. The gorgeous heritage property is only about ten minutes' walk from the middle of town, and even closer to the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens. My room had a beautiful, clean, recently renovated look, modern conveniences including enough power outlets and an air conditioner, and an ensuite bathroom with great water pressure. I had a great stay at the Carlisle and highly recommend it!

There's a charming, old-fashioned feel to this lovely inn. The welcome was very friendly and the room was nice. The decor is mixed in quality, but that adds to its charm. Breakfast was lovely and included.
