Auberge Ancrage

We were happy to spend four nights of our vacation at this beautiful inn. The friendly proprietor, who mostly speaks French, helped us find places to visit, and parking was easy. The inn sits right on the Gouffre river, a block from the main street's shops and restaurants. We enjoyed comfortable beds and a couch, a shared living room, and outdoor seats by the water. The walls are full of art, with whimsical nautical pieces and five extraordinary large paintings by Helene Tremblay. Breakfast was a scrumptious three-course meal with creative dishes. A few things caught us off guard. The Titanic room's balcony is broken and off limits, so don't book it if you want private outdoor space. There are many house rules, including no shoes inside and no rolling suitcases. We were also expected to tip the owners, despite there being no room service and no staff besides them. That surprised us, since in the US we tip non-owner staff for making up a room. Otherwise, heavenly!

Our room was peaceful and lovely, with a balcony looking out over the river. The house is beautiful, and breakfast was delicious.

Breakfast was exquisite, and sharing it with the other guests and the innkeeper was great company. The innkeeper really knew how to help us enjoy exploring the region. The room was clean, comfortable, and well appointed, and the atmosphere was lovely.

The owner and his partner served us a hearty, delicious breakfast, with plenty to eat. He was friendly, knew the area well, and was easy to reach. The inn is very clean and well maintained by conscientious people, and the location is perfect, right in the heart of the village. We stayed one night this week and highly recommend it.
