Douglas Fir Resort and Chalets

The chalet was gross. If I hadn’t had four children with me, I would have packed up and left, but I couldn’t do it for a two-night, one-day stay. The couches looked stained, the chairs were ripped and seemed pulled from a dumpster, the walls and roller blinds were dirty, and the stove elements didn’t sit properly, leaving pots tilted. I paid about 600 a night with taxes in high season, but I wouldn’t rent the place for 150 a night. The hallway chairs that nobody uses were nicer than the ones I got to sit by the fire. They said housekeeping was offered, but nobody came, so I had to ask for coffee on the second day. The pan was brutally hard to clean. I meant to pull out the fridge to check behind it, but forgot. The fireplace, waterpark, and playground were the pros. I booked for the pool and indoor playground, but those were the only reasons I could see to stay. I’d read mixed reviews, and the newer high scores made me think things might have changed. I can’t believe I spent money here, and I was telling everyone I talked to at the ski hill to avoid the place. My children are 14, but they weren’t allowed to go to the pool or hot tub alone, including the outdoor one. They’re fully capable, and I wouldn’t send them if they weren’t. Getting from the chalets to the outdoor hot tub or waterpark was also ridiculously difficult, with all those doors in the way.

The pool change rooms were disgusting, with towels all over and blood on the floor while staff sat upstairs wearing headphones. The rooms are outdated and run down, and the place needs a full overhaul of its appearance and management, not just paint on some chalets. It’s clear why this resort has vacancies when the other two on Tunnel Mountain are full. The website shows a nightly price, but they charged per person. We were overcharged for the accommodation, and the pet fee felt unreasonable when housekeeping was lacking. There was more damage from people than from pets in our unit. If they charge a pet fee, I’d expect the carpets to be steam cleaned before the next guests arrive. Communication with management was poor. I called to reserve a pet room, but staff tried to gaslight me, saying pet rooms can’t be booked online even after I explained several times that I’d phoned and spoken with someone. I left a message at the front desk when checking out, asking management to call at their convenience. A week later, I still hadn’t heard back. I was getting married on Tunnel Mountain in 2027 and gave management a chance to make things right so we could bring our wedding business back. We’ll take our hard-earned money elsewhere. It was absolutely dissatisfying for the price, and I won’t return.

The pool was my family’s favorite part, though I wish it opened in the morning every day. On weekdays it opened at 2:30 PM, compared with 9 AM on weekends, which felt late for the price. I’d also suggest extra pillows and blankets for the pull-out bed. Our room at the Douglas Fir Chalet was cozy and tidy, with wood accents and a fireplace that made it feel warm and cabin-like. It was spacious enough for our group of five, with three beds and a pull-out bed, plus two bathrooms that made getting ready easier. The kitchen was small but had utensils, bowls, cups, and plates for quick meals. It was a comfortable, charming stay in a beautiful location, and I’d consider coming back, especially if the pool hours improve.

The fireplace was awesome, and the kitchen had everything we needed. Our chalet was cozy, and we enjoyed seeing wildlife and setting off for walks and hikes right from the door. The water slides, outdoor hot tub, and kids’ play place were great. The play place was open from 8 AM to 9 PM, which was helpful since the pool only ran from 2:30 PM to 9 PM on weekdays. The bedding still had dog hair on it, and the coffee and tea supplies were a bit sparse. That’s my only complaint.
