Banff Ptarmigan Inn

The bartenders were all amazing, and the restaurant and bar were great for both breakfast and dinner. It's close to everything, with easy transport access to the sites and skiing. We loved our stay and would definitely come back.

The location in the heart of Banff is fantastic, but that's about the only thing that stood out. The hotel is outdated, and everything else felt mediocre at best for the price. It's overpriced, and the staff seemed not to care about accommodating guests. Early check-in was impossible, so we sat in the lobby for hours waiting for our room because the cleaning staff worked on their own schedule. The staff were crabby, and the customer service was the worst I've experienced at any hotel I've traveled to. Even discount hotels I've stayed in have been far better. Stay away and save your money.

The location is fantastic, and we got bus passes for the day. The in-room Rocky Mountain Soap Co. shampoo, conditioner, and soap were a nice touch. There's also a Keurig with two French roast pods, two decaf pods, sugar, and Coffee mate. But the room was mediocre at best. We booked a “superior double queen with balcony,” yet there were no bathrobes, no extras, and the blanket was very thin. At $300 a night, I expected ample parking, but had to pay another $40. I also expected at least some breakfast, continental or buffet style, to be included. I'd come back if it cost a fraction of the price, but nothing made it feel close to worth $300 a night.

I've been coming here since 2003, and it's always been clean, welcoming, and as central as you need. The people are friendly and helpful, and I can get my skis to the pickup right at the front door. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. A proper 5 out of 5, every time.
