Hampton Inn & Suites Barrie

The beds were comfortable and our room was clean, but I wouldn't stay at this location again. Check-in was frustrating: we were kept waiting until 3 PM, then delayed further because only one person was actively helping at the desk while others watched. We were late for a reservation. The security guard's behavior made the stay especially uncomfortable. He watched us the whole time at the pool, followed us back to our room, then knocked to say our TV was too loud. He said he could hear it with his ear against our door. I slept terribly afterward, anxious at every noise that he might come back. We called the front desk, who said there had been no noise complaints. They said they'd speak to him when we explained how upsetting it was, but that didn't undo it. We were barely at the hotel and had plans for the day, so I don't understand why our stay had to become so uncomfortable.

Barrie's central location, right by the highway, was convenient, and the breakfast had a nice range of choices. I spent two nights here, and the room and shared areas were very clean and clearly cared for. I met three different front desk staff, all welcoming and lovely. I can't remember their names except for Jil and Surbhi. I'll stay here again next time I'm in the area 🙂

For a business trip, the Hampton Inn is comfortable enough: rooms have the needed amenities, beds are clean and comfortable, the TVs are large, and the staff are friendly and helpful. There's also a small pool and gym, and free coffee through the day is welcome. Breakfast is the weak spot. The food quality is lacklustre, and getting it on paper plates with wooden cutlery feels like a child's birthday party. Breakfast is a key part of the stay, so if it were better, I'd rate the place four stars.

The staff were nice and the room was clean, with a lovely view, but that wasn't enough for me to return. I paid almost $700 for two nights and the beds were so hard my back hurt both mornings. The so-called hot breakfast was cold, including the eggs, sausage, and potatoes. My key cards kept failing, and the internet repeatedly cut out. I'm done with this place.
