The Dancing Moose Cafe

The owner really knows his stuff and was so accommodating. His food was absolutely delicious, and the setting is beautiful, with a beach of their own.

We only came for breakfast, but loved the food, the people, and the whole experience. Make this a stop on the Cabot Trail, and ask for the Chef’s special version of their pancakes. Visitors leave moose drawings, which they collect, and there are lovely cottages and a waterfront. The beach is beautiful, though very rocky.

The Soup du jour was the standout for me, a spicy vegetable and chicken soup with lots of herbs, one of the best I’ve had. I also tried the farmer pannenkoeken (dutch crepes), which were really flavorful, with plenty of cheese plus peppers, onions, mushrooms, and ham. There are just a couple of tables facing the waterfront, and the staff were friendly. By far my favorite cafe I’ve visited in NS.

The sunrise over the beach was stunning, and we even saw seal heads popping up in the ocean. The cabin was such a cozy, rustic place to spend the night, with all the amenities we wanted. The space heater was much appreciated during our mid-October stay, and the owner was friendly and accommodating. We also really enjoyed breakfast at the cafe, and all the customers’ moose art covering the walls. Definitely worth a visit. We’ll be back when we’re in the area again.
