The location was great for skating on the canal, and both restaurants had great food. Still, I didn’t see the value in the suite price. The Junior suite was advertised with a tub, separate shower, and double vanity, but our room had a walk-in shower and a tiny sink with almost no vanity, which was difficult for three ladies. The mini fridge was very small, so we had to use our Tetris skills to fit leftovers from The shore house in the hotel restaurant. There was no microwave to reheat them. I’d booked a suite for a special family weekend and requested a higher floor a month ahead. We ended up on 8 out of 22. The view wasn’t lovely, but I understand requests can’t be guaranteed. I think a regular room with a Parliament view would have been the better choice.

Angela checked us in and made our stay feel extra special. The room was spacious, very clean, and so quiet, with an exceptional view. My husband and I love staying here, and this visit was especially memorable. Thank you, Angela, for celebrating with us and for your kindness and attention to detail. We’ll never forget it. 💕

I haven’t stayed inside The Westin Ottawa yet, but whenever I pass, the hotel gives off a polished, smoothly run feel. It’s busy, with guests coming and going, and the modern building stands out as one of downtown’s anchors. It’s right beside the Rideau Centre, close to the Canal, and a short walk from Parliament Hill. In winter, it seems especially lively when people are skating or exploring. I’m looking forward to seeing the inside one day. Thanks, Ross, for the kind response. Your thoughtful reply adds to the impression I already had of The Westin Ottawa as a downtown landmark. I’ll keep admiring the hotel’s energy and presence in the city until I get to experience it for myself.

The morning manager, Japreet, took care of the noisy suite above mine after I raised the problem, and made sure it was resolved to my satisfaction. He’s an excellent manager and a great representative for this Westin and the brand. Without him, I’d have rated the service two stars. The bed and bedding were comfortable, and service was generally good, as you’d expect from a standard Westin. But the rooms badly need refreshing, with peeling wallpaper, dirt on the ceilings, and chips and scuffs on most of the furniture. At check-in, I was only offered points and had to ask about the breakfast benefit available at my level.

The location is excellent for winter fun, right across from the start of the Rideau canal skateway, and the hotel connects through to the Rideau centre shopping mall, on the way to Byward market. The reservation desk agent didn’t know about the nearby skateway, though. After skating in -25 degree weather, I found the shower frustrating because the temperature swung between too hot and too cold. The room smelled like body odour, the bedside tables hadn’t been wiped, and there were dirty socks under the bed from the previous occupant. The pool had a ring of grimy dirt, and the room coffee wasn’t good. The bed itself was comfortable. Breakfast waffles at the hotel restaurant cost over $30. For that kind of money, we thought we should have stayed at the Fairmont.
