Travelodge by Wyndham Bracebridge

I visited Muskoka October 11-13 2025, and honestly this hotel was okay. It met my expectations, and I don’t think it deserves a 2 star rating. Services have improved a lot since past years, so I’d say you should book if you’re considering it. The free breakfast has improved a lot, so don’t rely on older reviews about it. There were plenty of choices and they refilled things when they ran out. There are a few tables and chairs for eating in, too. I had a two queen bed room with a nice patio, chairs, pleasant lighting, a dresser, table, two chairs, and enough room for luggage. It had a fridge and microwave, but no dental kit, just two small soap bars and shampoo. There wasn’t a ceiling light, though the lamps were enough. The first thing we noticed was a smoke smell, so we left the doors open for a bit to air it out. I had my dog with me, and the hotel is dog-friendly, but there isn’t grass out back for bathroom breaks. We requested room cleaning. They cleaned and replaced the towels, but didn’t make the bed or refill the soap. If you want the bed made, I think you should ask.

We just needed somewhere to sleep on the way to our final destination, and this one-level hotel worked well for that. The room was small and basic, enough for two of us and our golden doodle, with no extra amenities needed for one night. The outside looked a little run down, though signs said they’re working on it.

The customer service was pathetic. I raised concerns about the room’s condition and safety, and that it wasn’t worth $350/night, but all I got were excuses. They said our room hadn’t been renovated yet, prices rise when availability is low, and they wouldn’t discount it. For that price, over $400 with taxes and fees, the room was in terrible shape. The door frame was broken in two places, with cracked, jagged paint from top to bottom showing it had apparently been kicked in. A screw at the top corner held it in place, and the deadbolt no longer lined up with the plate. The patio lock was loose, and the screen door was jammed. The heat didn’t work, and the sink faucet outside the bathroom sprayed water several feet around the sink. There was a large strange stain on the carpet by the couch, with little sharp stones or something in it, and the old, very soft mattresses left us with sore backs and necks. The linens were old and discoloured. The TV was old too, with only a few local channels and no streaming. Breakfast wasn’t being served because of renovations, though the appliances and food stands were all there. Instead, we got paper bags with an apple, two yogurts, a granola bar, and bottled water. The internet worked and the shower was reasonable, to be fair. But after dinner our keys didn’t work, and the front desk woman couldn’t get hers to work either. For a moment I thought she was going to try to break the door down again. She finally opened it. I’d give zero stars if I could. Don’t book this seedy little motel.

The room is what made us leave the same day we checked in. The floor was filthy, and the bathroom hand soap was empty and caked with old dried soap. That should have been taken care of before we arrived. The TV wouldn’t work at all, so we had no access to it. The front desk was somewhat helpful, but unfortunately this place didn’t work out for me.
