Lagoon City Pier One Resort

The restaurant service was excellent when we arrived early, and that seemed like a good start. We were staying at Lagoon City Pier One Resort while house hunting nearby, hoping to avoid driving into the city, but the rest of the experience was deeply disappointing. We knew our room wouldn’t be ready at 2 pm, but even at the official 4 pm check-in time it wasn’t ready. We waited until 4:30 for our keys. The first room was filthy, with no towels and long black hairs on the walls and in the shower. We felt the cleaning staff were more interested in sitting on the patios smoking than doing their jobs. The “upgraded” room we were moved to still wasn’t clean enough, so we checked out promptly and found somewhere else. It wasn’t as conveniently located, but the service and cleanliness were far better. We’ve had better stays at budget roadside motels, with friendlier staff and much better service. Lagoon City Pier One Resort didn’t meet even basic expectations, and I’d avoid it.

We’ve eaten at the restaurant a few times this summer, and the food has been excellent each time. The Fish & Chips, Fish Tacos, and pasta were all very good. We haven’t stayed at the resort, so this is just about the restaurant. Service was slow greeting us and checking on us after the food arrived. I think they may have been understaffed for the number of tables. Still, we’d go back next summer for the food.

The view was spectacular, and the rooms felt clean, spacious, and welcoming. Pier One’s staff were very friendly and knew their stuff. Dining was good, though it seemed there was just one person waiting tables, even with the place not overly busy. The continental breakfast covered the basics, cereal, toast, coffee, and yogurt, but could’ve been better. There was no juice or hot water for tea. All in all, a very good experience.

Having the fire pit right outside our room made campfires easy, and docking our boat at the waterfront room was convenient for the week. The service staff were accommodating, and the rooms were decent. We found nice trails for walking our puppy. A dog-friendly beach nearby would’ve been nice, since the closest one was about a 20-minute drive. It was a good experience overall, and we’ll be back : )
