Little Black Bear Lodge/B&B

The best part was the house’s own jetty on the lake. In August 2022, my mom and I stayed here, and we were so grateful to the warm hosts, Maya & Jürg, for sharing this place with us. Breakfast was delicious, and we ate on their balcony with a breathtaking view of the peaceful nature. It felt like paradise.

We were welcomed warmly and shown to a very clean room with lots of thoughtful touches: fruit, water bottles, our own kitchen, and a big selection of games. There was also a large living room where we could relax. The B&B sits slightly above the lake, surrounded by nature, with a lovely view. We even saw deer around the house one evening. We booked breakfast and got a generous buffet with Rösti, tasty scrambled eggs and cheese, plus plenty of fruit and muesli. The stay exceeded our expectations by far, and we’d gladly recommend this B&B.

Terrible customer service. We had booked three nights at the Lodge for July 16-19, 2021, but wildfires and road closures in the BC interior meant we couldn’t get there. We let the Little Black Bear Lodge know as soon as we realized there was a problem, three days beforehand, but they refused to refund even part of the cost. Some fires were very close to Bridge Lake. Although the Lodge could be reached from some directions, including from the east, it wasn’t reachable from where we were staying on the coast farther north. We would have had to travel through the Chilcotin on Highway 20, which was closed. Getting there from our home in Vancouver on the 16th wasn’t easy or advisable either, even if we hadn’t already been farther north. There were “do not travel” warnings along Highway 97 from Clinton to 5km south of 100 Mile House, affecting access to the turnoff for Highway 24 and Bridge Lake. Evacuation warnings were also in place around the region, including at Sheridan Lake just west of Bridge Lake. With that situation, they should have refunded most of the cost. No one should have to drive into an area surrounded by fires that might get worse with very little notice. The Drive BC warning for Highway 97 that day said travel was not recommended and the road could close again at a moment’s notice. We’re very unhappy with the owners’ response that none of this was their problem.

We had a family wedding in the area and rented the entire B&B. Maya, the owner, was wonderful and so thoughtful. The view from every room was fabulous, and it felt like being in our own home. Everything we could think of was supplied.
