Saskatoon Thriftlodge

The people were friendly, but the place was a disaster. I spent Friday night at the Thriftlodge and regretted it as soon as I entered the room. The mat by the door looked like it had ten years of dirt on it, and the lamp shade had three huge holes. There was a big stain on the comforter and a smaller, gross-looking one on the sheet. Customer service brought fresh sheets and removed the mat. The bathroom wall beside the tub looked like an awful drywall job. Then the TV wouldn’t work. The staff member who came over said the cable box was broken and they had no replacement, so there was no TV that night. It was a nightmare stay. I wish I’d paid the extra $40 for a decent room at another motel. Never again.

At $130 a night, this was far worse than I could have expected. The room was hellishly dirty, but the area felt rough too, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here, especially at night. We decided to leave right away after seeing the room. At reception I got a halfhearted apology, but no effort to fix the situation, no refund, and no accountability. It felt like a total scam. Stay the hell away from me.

The room and property were in rough shape. There was no phone, the toilet was broken, the furniture was stained, and the floor looked unswept. No bathroom fan, either. The towels were an off-yellow color, and the beds were squeaky and very worn in. Water stains marked the ceiling. Loud neighbors kept going all night, garbage blew around the parking lot, and the breakfast yogurt was two weeks past its date.

We booked three rooms for two nights for our large family, all adults. The staff were very nice and helpful, and the beds were reasonably comfortable, but the rooms had stained, dirty bedding and floors. There were hardly any outlets, and our shower only had scalding hot water. A ceiling tile in the bathroom was hanging down. The area felt sketchy, and the train runs right beside the building. Not a good experience, and I don’t recommend it.
