Comfort Inn & Suites University

We decided not to stay and got a full refund, then went to stay with family. The front desk manager was understanding and reasonable when I explained our concerns, and offered us a different room, but we assumed the rest of the hotel would be in similar shape. In our room there was dim lighting, an odd smell, lots of stains, and damage to the furniture and room. The hallways had carts and shop vacuums all over them. The elevator smelled musty and felt humid. The lobby was clean, though the furniture was filthy. We’d booked this for our Calgary and Cochrane trip, but based on what we saw, I can’t recommend it.

The people were nice and the location was fine, but the room was disgusting. The bathroom had makeup, grease, and handprints everywhere, with strange drips on the walls. The door looked nasty, there was an odd stain on the floor, and when I went to watch TV, I found an old sticky piece of food stuck to the bottom of the remote. It made me sick to my stomach. They need higher cleaning standards.

The service was awful. I called to ask how many people a queen room sleeps because the website says three but doesn’t mention a hide-a-bed. When someone finally answered, she said there were no rooms available without even asking when we were travelling. I couldn’t get her to understand that she didn’t know our dates and hadn’t answered my question. She hung up on us. We’ll take our business elsewhere.

We were in town to celebrate my graduation and had booked three rooms for my family, so we expected better treatment. The older front desk employee, Sarah, was rude and condescending and needs customer service training. On our third day I went to ask if I could exchange quarters for loonies to do laundry. She said they had none. I asked why, hoping for a suggestion, and she replied, “That’s just how it is, it’s not my fault.” I wasn’t blaming her, just trying to work out what to do, and the response was unnecessary and unprofessional. The next day, when my family checked in, my brother’s girlfriend had made the booking, but my mom’s card was paying. Sarah refused to accept it, saying the person who booked had to pay with their own card. That didn’t make sense, since I’d booked a room for myself and my boyfriend, and he paid without a problem. She kept making excuses, seemed unsure of what she was doing, and argued instead of calmly helping us sort it out. Nobody apologized for the confusion or inconvenience. We didn’t deserve to be treated that way while trying to enjoy time with family. It was a horrible experience, and I hope the company takes her behavior seriously.
