University of Calgary - Seasonal Residence

The continental breakfast turned out not to be included, so my wife and I paid $10 each for a really bad version of a Holiday Inn breakfast. We only took the food because we couldn't imagine it would cost extra. They were even out of cutlery and coffee. Basically, it was $10 mini danishes and toast. The rooms are pretty nice, and the hotel is modern. The dorm setup is cool because you get your own bedroom with lots of storage space. The common areas with couches are nice for hanging out, too. My only other problem is the beds, which are definitely sub par. They're like plastic prison mattresses on springs, and my wife and I kept rolling into the middle of the bed, making it hard to sleep.

The room is clean and nice, with a decent bed and a great view. My first two nights have gone well. Breakfast was another story this morning: the bistro was so busy that by 7:40 there was almost nothing left, and I walked away with just a muffin. Hope tomorrow goes better.

Shopping is all within walking distance, and there’s a bus stop nearby. We took a chance on booking here and were pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to get around the university. The rooms are excellent and very clean. It’s a great place to stay while joining the University, since it’s so close.

The restaurant is acceptable, but the breakfast buffet really isn’t good. The front desk staff also had no idea how to handle an American credit card, and I spent an hour on the phone with my bank as a result. Not cool. For what you get, the place feels cramped and very expensive. Even the little things were irritating. The sinks are so shallow you end up knocking your hands against the ceramic while washing them. Unless you have tiny Trump hands, you’ll probably find that annoying too. I’ve only stayed in single rooms, and they were frustrating. Maybe the larger suites are better.
