Northwinds By Basecamp

You can walk to everything from here, and they really do enforce quiet after 10 pm. The rooms are clean and nicely updated, the beds are comfy, and there’s a huge TV over the fireplace. I’d stay again.

The room was clean and comfortable, and for the price and location Northwinds works well as a place to come back to after a busy day in Canmore. Service felt pretty hands-off, as I’ve generally found at other Basecamp resorts. A couple of small things could be better: the main floor gets noisy, and when we asked for cutlery, the only thing available was a fork.

We wanted to love this place because the room was beautiful and the staff gave great service, but we had two restless nights and won’t stay here again. There’s almost no sound insulation. In Room 123 we could hear people checking in and out, talking and walking in the hall, using the stairs, and rolling luggage. We could even hear every footstep, drawer, and shower in the room above us. It felt like staying in a basement suite. The $30-per-hour early check-in charge and the late checkout fee also seemed ridiculous. We’re usually in Canmore every three months, but we’ll avoid this hotel.

My friend and I were really pleased with the service. Alexander was kind and gave us helpful ideas for places to visit nearby. It was especially nice meeting someone who spoke Russian, since our English isn’t very good.
