Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge

We spent three nights here and found the location especially lovely, with mountains all around and a short walk of about 20 minutes to downtown. There are lots of good cafes and restaurants nearby, plus a play area for children and outdoor BBQs. Check-in went smoothly. The room and bathroom were clean, though dated, and the shower had good pressure. The room suited us fine as a base while exploring, though it isn’t fancy. When we had problems, the front desk answered quickly and did their best to sort them out. One day our room seemed to be the only one with a wifi issue, so they offered to move us for the rest of our stay.

They have parking spaces, and the apartment was spacious and well equipped. My flight was delayed, but they stayed a little later so I could check in face to face. The railway nearby was the main drawback, as it is for many places in Canmore. I could hear the train all night. Still, the service was wonderful and I had a great stay. I’d come back.

The room price changed without warning or explanation, which felt dishonest, and the staff were rude and dismissive from the start. When I asked whether the room had a microwave, they laughed instead of answering. I’ve never been treated with so little respect as a paying guest. The beds and pillows were old, flat, and deeply uncomfortable, so getting a good night’s sleep was impossible. The heater took more than 24 hours to reach the temperature I set, unacceptable in cold weather. The whole place felt run down, neglected, and badly managed. Nothing about the stay was relaxing. What should have been a vacation became miserable and left me frustrated and disappointed. Don’t be fooled by the name: to me, this was barely a functioning motel, not a lodge or hotel. Save yourself the money and stress. I’d never return and would strongly advise others to stay elsewhere.

A clean, basic suite with a small kitchen and sofa bed, at a reasonable price. It’s close enough to Banff without costing too much, and it’s easy to get around Canmore from here. There’s free coffee at reception. The hot tub and sauna were nice, though they were occupied most of the time.
