Super 8 Castlegar BC

We’ve stayed here many times over the years, usually in an upper-level king room with no one above us, which is quieter. This time my husband and I spent two nights in a King room on the second floor near the lobby stairs, and we both slept badly. A group of teenage boys booked in for the second night and were very noisy across from us. The people on the third floor were loud too, and the ceiling creaked badly. The pillows were so fat they kinked our necks, like body pillows. I wish I’d brought my own. The room needed better cleaning. The tub had a line of mold around the molding, the stovetops were dirty, and the bathroom door was disgusting top to bottom and needed painting. A bathroom light was out too. Breakfast was disappointing: the apples were very old, and one woman warned us the oranges were old, mushy, and gross. The dishes in the sink were piled to the top with no employee coming to clean them up. We left and ate at the Monte Carlo, then went to the Bombi the next morning, where breakfast was great. Super 8 used to have higher standards. The Castlegar hotel is run down and definitely needs upgrades. We won’t stay there anymore when we return to our old hometown.

The location was great, within walking distance of everything I needed, and the room and bathroom were clean and decently stocked. But we were VERY disappointed that the waterslide was out of service, since it was one of the main reasons we booked. Staff also said the pool was closed because the water was too cold. People were using it anyway, so we went down, but it was very shallow and too cold for comfort. The hot tub was tiny, with rust stains lining the walls. The staff were friendly but not engaging, and didn’t tell us about the workout room. When we arrived at 2 pm, they wouldn’t let us check in early but did store our belongings behind the front desk. We returned at 4 pm to check in. The hallways were old, outdated, and creepy, like The Shining. My daughter was scared. The bed was uncomfortable, with a lumpy mattress worn down on one side. The TV had only basic cable, no movie apps. There was no stationery in the room or extra ice bags. At night people were loud in the hallways, sounding like a herd of elephants running down them. Breakfast was a letdown too. The drinking water was warm even at the dispenser, and the apple and orange juice and milk in a glass pitcher were warm as well. The milk wasn’t kept on ice or in a thermal pitcher. The options were lame and boring: Corn Flakes, plain Cheerios, fruit, and muffins.

The room was okay, but had splatter marks on the walls and doors. We couldn’t get hot water. Even after running it for 15 minutes, it was only lukewarm. The elevator door was covered in cement splatters, and the included breakfast had literally nothing to eat. It’s a complete joke. We won’t return.

It’s a pretty cheap place, but it’s old and not comfortable. The hot pool wasn’t working. They advertise breakfast, but all they serve is bread and eggs, so check the breakfast situation when choosing a place.
