Avonlea Forest Hill Cottages

The location was great, central and close to local amenities, and the place seemed quaint. But after four days I started feeling sick. I’d wake with a sore throat, stuffy nose, and cough, and it seemed to ease when I left for the day, only to come back at night. I couldn’t sleep, was exhausted, and kept taking cold medicine. I looked up and saw mold on the ceiling, which I thought was probably the cause. I was suffering, and my vacation no longer felt like a vacation, so I moved to another rental that day. I sent the property and Expedia notice that I was leaving, along with a video showing the room in proper condition and photos of the mold. Expedia told me the property wouldn’t answer their calls until I’d been home for four days, then denied a credit for the nights I hadn’t stayed, even though I believed the room’s condition caused my illness. The day I moved, I slept for hours and noticed my congestion was gone and my cough starting to disappear, which confirmed my suspicion that the mold had caused my reaction. The property refused to acknowledge the issue or refund the unused nights.

Great cottages, and the location was ideal!
