The Cavendish Motel

We chose this place only because it was near where we wanted to be and one of the few options still available when we booked a couple of weeks ahead. For a similar price, we’ve stayed in much nicer places. Breakfast was disappointing, with no options for dietary needs, and they ran out of coffee and eggs almost right away. The room floor was badly out of level, and the shower water only got warm enough after several minutes. In the kitchen, the water never got nearly hot enough to wash dishes, so we had to boil water and add it to the sink to feel sure the dishes were clean and safe. There were very few pots and pans, no dish cloth, and only dirty used sponges. The TV didn’t work at first, and I spent 20 minutes fixing the network settings. The pool was probably the best part: it seemed clean and was in good repair. The AC worked.

We stayed about a week, and the service was consistent. One evening, the upstairs neighbours had a party, so we called the hotel emergency line and they handled it. The beds were comfy, the rooms were clean, and we were always greeted with a smile. The TV setup in our first-floor room was great, though we only used it once. The rooms are a little dated and could use fresh paint and updated furniture. Breakfast was okay, but the eggs looked a little green. I think it was the pan they use, though they should fix that because it wasn’t appetizing. Everything else was fine, and we’d definitely come back :)

Our room was clean, with new windows and doors, fresh paint inside and out, and everything seemed well maintained. I stayed three nights. The beds were firm, which I liked, but the pillows were flat and lumpy. The sign saying the room is inventoried and we’d be charged for anything missing put me off. For similar prices, there are nicer places that serve Belgian waffles and homemade jam for breakfast. Still, it’s a place to sleep.

This was our third stay, and the hotel could use an overhaul. A new playground would be a nice addition. Our room had a lot of flies and a funny smell. It was also extremely loud for a Monday night: from 9-11pm, kids upstairs were running, yelling, and dropping things.
