The Mariner Motor Hotel

The rooms badly need an upgrade, and there weren’t any amenities or senior or CAA discounts. The proprietor was rude, indignant, and disrespectful even before check-in. If I could’ve canceled without losing the room price, I would’ve done it in a heartbeat. Spend a few extra bucks and stay somewhere else if you can.

We were left stranded after traveling with kids and older adults, since other places were booked up. Anamita at the front desk was dismissive and uncooperative instead of helping us sort out what had happened. It felt dishonest and hostile, and we were extremely disappointed. We won’t be back. I booked through Expedia for five adults and one child. Expedia confirmed that a room with two queen beds could fit us, with an extra $30 at check-in. But when we arrived, Anamita rudely said only two people could stay in the room, then tried to charge another $40 for each pair of guests, and said even a baby would be charged separately. She also said the booking was prepaid and non-refundable, though Expedia had shown “pay at check-in.” Be careful booking through Expedia or this hotel. They didn’t honor what was promised online.

Parking right by the room was really handy, and the staff were friendly. The room was clean and the shower was hot. It’s dated, sure, but at $150 for a Saturday night at the height of ski season, that’s what the five stars are for. They could do a better job clearing snow and salting.

There were no towels in the bathroom after a long day of travel. I tried calling reception over and over, but nobody answered. When I finally walked to the desk, there wasn’t a receptionist there. I also found a charge on my bank statement that was much higher than the agreed price and hadn’t been authorized. Calling about that went unanswered too. The room had a musty, unpleasant smell that seemed to linger everywhere. The furniture was in alarming shape, patched up with what looked like a lot of clear cellophane tape. Basic maintenance didn’t seem to be a priority. Between the smell, broken furniture, missing towels, unresponsive staff, and extra charge, the night was miserable. I strongly suggest finding somewhere else.
