Our group of 14 U13 girls is here for hockey provincials, and the girls have been respectful. They aren’t running around, playing mini sticks, or making trouble. They’ve just been spending time in each other’s rooms and occasionally walking between them, as groups do. Still, security has made them afraid to leave their rooms. A guard stands in the hallway with arms crossed, watching everyone, and tells people they can’t be there whenever they step outside. A couple of players were stopped from going to another floor for ice, and one was told she couldn’t walk in the hallway with a bottle of Gatorade. I understand hockey teams can sometimes have a reputation, but this level of enforcement feels excessive and intimidating. Kids who are behaving appropriately shouldn’t feel policed or frightened. The whole stay has been extremely disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel to sports teams or, based on this, to travelers in general. A welcoming and respectful atmosphere should be standard, and this has been the opposite. I’d give less than one star if I could.

We came for a fun hockey weekend, hoping to make lasting memories, but the staff were stern and rude. The girls, who are 12 and 13, were scared to leave their rooms because a security guard stood in the hallway to keep them inside. We expected the hotel to understand that kids might walk between rooms and parents might spend time together in one another’s rooms. Being harassed over that was completely unacceptable. We won’t stay here again, and definitely wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

I liked being able to open the window for fresh air, and the TV had a good range of channels instead of just sports and news. But I can’t recommend the place. I travel for work and needed internet, only to find there’s no Wi-Fi. The attached restaurant said it had been without Wi-Fi for weeks, and guests were coming in to work there for the connection, so that’s what I had to do too. There’s no elevator either, so expect to carry your bags up the stairs, and there’s no breakfast.

The room itself was clean, and the staff were somewhat friendly and helpful. But after 9pm, two staff members wouldn’t get me water. They said they don’t put it out after that time, and I’d have to buy a bottle or use the bathroom sink. I suspect that’s a management decision, not the fault of the front-facing staff. I don’t think guests should have to pay for water when the hotel has a tap for the lemon water it puts out until 9pm, and I’m not comfortable drinking from the room’s bathroom tap. The bed and bedding were uncomfortable, and the walls were so thin I could hear my neighbors talking and doing things. I couldn’t sleep, so I knocked on the wall to ask them to quiet down. They may not have realized how loud they sounded; the thin walls were the problem.
