First Canada Inn Cornwall

The apartment was roomy and had enough furniture, but the condition made our stay uncomfortable. Ants were all over, including in the kitchen, on the bed, and in the washroom, which was especially worrying since we had a child with us. Luckily we'd brought our own sheets and pillow covers. We arrived around 9:45 PM to check in, and throughout the process the staff member kept talking on the phone to someone else. It came across as inattentive and unprofessional. The place has potential, but it needs much better cleaning and maintenance.

The owners were there whenever we had a question or needed help, and we felt right at home. Check-in was quick and smooth, and our room was clean and just what I expected. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout. The price was good for what we got. Since it was the slow winter season, I wish I'd booked directly with them, though everything worked out wonderfully. I'd happily recommend the place and hope to return on another trip.

The room was freezing when we arrived, despite having a reservation, with -20⁰ weather outside. They could have turned the heat on before check-in. My adult daughter was in the next room and found a bed covered in short hairs. In our room, there was hair in the kitchenette drawer, old toothpaste on the vanity, stained walls and water damage, dirty towels and mirror, and a nonworking fireplace. The doors and bathroom were filthy, and the mismatched finishes made the place look neglected. The front desk was untidy too. It seems like renovations may be underway under new owners, but the work looks unfinished and corners seem to be cut, especially in the bathrooms. I don't think they should be fully open until the renovations are complete. I won't be back and can't recommend it.

Easy to reach from the highway, with downtown amenities close by. The rooms are clean, modern, and nicely priced, especially online, where they're under 75$. If you're travelling on the 401, I'd recommend it. The name-brand hotels are around 115 for what seems like a very similar stay.
