Super 8 by Wyndham Courtenay

After a week of our two-week work stay, I asked to have the room tidied, but nobody came. I was working 10-hour days and ended up getting towels and sheets myself, then cleaning the room on my own. It felt like nobody cared. The room itself was okay, but for a longer stay, you can find a better motel in town.

The staff were great, the location was central, and the room rates were reasonable. We stayed longer than usual and the service was consistent. Breakfast was mostly alright, though waffle makers would make it better and could help avoid waste when few people are eating. The laundry room needs a deep clean. We also had noisy guests above us at 1 a.m. Maybe quiet-hour signs would help, though they’re not essential. I’m sure the front desk would have asked them to quiet down anonymously if we’d called.

The room was clean, and check-in was friendly and straightforward. I’d rate the stay around 3.5 out of 5, though. There was a strong wet-dog and cigarette smell, the ventilation wasn’t great, and the air conditioner was very loud.

The staff were pleasant, and it looked like new owners were trying to get the place back in shape. For the price, it was pretty good and mostly clean and comfortable. Still, there was mildew in the new shower silicone, the drain didn’t work well, and the cleaners should remember to get behind the bathroom door.
