The hotel was otherwise great, with friendly staff, a comfortable room, and a free shuttle to and from the airport. But only at check-in did I find out my room was above a karaoke bar that stays open until 2 a.m. At $250 a night, I think that should be disclosed in advance, especially since it seems to have bothered other travelers too. The bar itself was unremarkable. Please do something about the noise situation.

I really enjoyed my stay at Midnight Sun, a Coast Hotel. The rooms were clean, and I liked how the recent renovations brought together the building's gold rush heritage and modern comforts. The property is a historic site, established in 1985, and it's a boutique hotel operated by the Canadian chain Coast Hotels, which focuses on regional experiences.

The lobby is stunning, and the building has a lot of history. Rooms are comfortable, and having AC is especially handy during hot Dawson days. The hotel is right in the heart of Dawson, so expect some noise during busy summer weekends, though it didn't bother us. Check-in is at the downtown hotel around the corner. The staff were friendly and accommodating. This is probably the most updated hotel in Dawson.

Tuesday through Thursday morning were wonderful. My king suite was beautiful, spacious, newly renovated, and very quiet, with large dark blinds and a Samsung TV I could cast my phone to. The staff were wonderful too, helping me several times when my key stopped working. They said not to keep it near a phone or credit card. I stayed Tuesday to Friday in early June, and that timing matters: on Thursday night the bar below my room opened for the weekend, and the room vibrated until 3:45 a.m., even though the bar closed at 2. I called the hotel many times for help and even called the police. They didn't charge me for the final night, which I appreciate, but the frustration can still spoil a trip. I hope this warns others. It was a wonderful experience through Thursday morning, and probably great in winter too, but not suitable when the bar is open. In summer, that room shouldn't be rented out on weekends.

I wouldn't recommend staying at the Midnight Sun. The room seemed cozy at first and had clearly been updated recently, but the soundproofing was poor. A bar is directly below the rooms, and all three nights the music kept us awake until about 2 a.m. The bed was really soft. There isn't a check-in desk at the hotel, so you have to check in at the Downtown Hotel. The shower has extremely strong water pressure, but the drain can't keep up, leaving you standing in about two inches of water.
