Hotel Dawson Creek, SureStay Collection by Best Western

My main frustration is the fitness area. It’s been under construction for months, and I still don’t know what the holdup is. I’m tired of paying drop-in fees at local gyms, and I’m starting to look at other hotels with better fitness facilities. That says a lot, since I’ve stayed here for work for the past 3-4 years. The staff are top shelf, and I can’t say enough good things about them. Since it became a BW, the renovations have been impressive. The rooms are nice, the beds are great, and the lobby and breakfast area have everything you could ask for.

My daughter booked 13 nights at this Best Western in Dawson Creek through Expedia, hoping to save her employer money. She usually picks cheaper places in the area, but they were full. Her cross-shift arrived four days early, so she needed to check out ahead of schedule. She’s done this many times before without trouble, but the hotel said it couldn’t accommodate the change because the reservation was made through a third party. We contacted Expedia right away. They had no objection and tried several times by phone and email to confirm their approval with the hotel. The manager still refused. We then took the issue to Best Western’s corporate complaint line, but the manager rejected their involvement too. Even after we appealed directly, the hotel wouldn’t refund the three unused nights, or even partially reimburse two of them. My daughter now has to pay that cost herself, leaving her effectively uncompensated for half her work period. We understand this was a third-party booking, but Expedia explicitly approved the early departure. In our nearly 30 years in the oil and gas sector, with countless hotel stays, we’ve never had an early checkout become a problem, including at other Best Western properties. Work schedules change and projects can finish early, so this kind of adjustment is common in our industry. I’ve asked family, friends, and business associates, and none has encountered a refusal like this. Expedia handled things very well, doing everything they could to help and even personally apologizing to my daughter. For anyone in an industry where an early departure is possible, I’d avoid this hotel. It’s been the most difficult and uncooperative one our family has dealt with.

The renovation has made this a clean, fresh and really pleasant place to stay. In the morning, the smell of the hot free breakfast drifts down the hall from the main room off the lobby. The staff were friendly and our room was great. Definitely my go-to for a Dawson Creek stay.

We travel much more than most people and have never stayed in a cleaner hotel than the Dawson Creek Best Western. The front desk staff were very professional, and the morning breakfast was the best we’ve ever had.
