Digby Backpackers Inn

Everything in the kitchen is labeled, which was great. Digby Backpackers Inn feels like home, with a tastefully decorated, super-clean space and the friendliest atmosphere I've found in a hostel. It's about a 2 minute walk to the waterfront, a general store, a few banks and seafood restaurants, and right down the road from the ferry. Probably the cleanest and friendliest hostel I've stayed in.

The communal kitchen was great, breakfast foods were included and there was a good selection. WiFi was good, the location excellent, and the owners were very friendly. But for a couple in a private room, you're paying motel prices for a hostel setup. Our room was OK, though the bed dipped in the middle and there was only one power outlet. There was just one shower/toilet in the same room on our accommodation floor, and even though it was out of season in April, we had to queue. There's another toilet two floors down in the basement, quite a trek.

The hostel was comfortable, and our hosts were welcoming and hospitable. My husband and I stayed for two days, and our only regret was not being able to stay longer. Digby is well worth a visit, and the hostel was one of the highlights of our 11 day trip around Nova Scotia.

The location was a big part of why I kept coming back. It’s just two blocks from Water street, and the hostel is clean and comfortable. The owners are very friendly and management is great. I stayed five times, in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2017.
