Royal Hotel West Edmonton, Trademark Collection by Wyndham

The breakfast at the hotel was good, and there were free cookies at the counter in the late afternoon. We had a coffee maker in the clean room, though I had hoped for a microwave and didn't get one. We were beside the elevator but didn't hear much noise. The room keys were a daily hassle: they wouldn't let us in, so we had to get them reset at the desk each time. We kept them separate from our phones and anything else that might interfere with RFID.

The bed and blankets were very comfortable and smelled clean, and the area was convenient, about a 3-5 minute drive or 30-minute walk from West Edmonton Mall. Denny's and Chop Steak House are across the street in the Sandman, with other fast food within walking distance; Liquor House is across the street too. But manage your expectations. I booked a King Bed, Superior Club Room and requested a jacuzzi. At check-in they said they'd upgraded us to a suite with a jacuzzi, but it was just a bed and couch, not really a suite. It was dark, one of the two lamps didn't work, and the room had a bad vibe and bad feng shui. A room attendant was great and helped us get our original room back. That room was nicer, but had no jacuzzi, only a tiny steam shower that my 6'5" husband couldn't fit in. The steam shower, coffee maker, and TV remote didn't work either. The rest of the hotel smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and badly needs updating and renovation. Not a horrible place, but it wasn't a great stay.

I was there to attend a party, so I didn't see the rooms or the hotel's other services. What I did see was the service provided for the party on site, and it was exemplary. The staff were kind, smiling, and very efficient. I've stayed in some New York hotels where the staff weren't as good as these people.

The hall was elegant and spacious, and the food was delicious. Efficient service helped make my daughter's milestone birthday a success, and our guests had lots of compliments. We're very grateful to Catering Manager Steven Fortier and his team for such affordable, excellent service. Wishing them continued success!
