Happy Motel

We found the service really positive and friendly. The rooms were nice and had what we needed, including a microwave and fridge, plus soap was provided. It’s an affordable place and a really nice stay. I’d recommend it.

The room had a decent-sized fridge and freezer, plus a microwave, but a lot of things needed attention. The bathroom fan was broken, the ceiling fan light was out, and the vertical blind had a broken panel that wouldn’t block the light properly. I put the panel back on myself, and strangely it stayed despite the broken clip. There wasn’t even a box of tissues. The ground-floor room was well soundproofed, which helped, since the area was noisy and smelly from the nearby pulp mill and traffic. The rear lot looked dumpy, with tall weeds and broken fencing. We paid $190 plus an $18 booking fee for a room that felt worth $100 at best. The night before, we stayed somewhere much nicer in Cornwall for only $124.

I barely slept during my one night here. The second-floor rooms share a main door that slams whenever someone comes in, and noise from the hallway and outside carried right into my room. The people I saw coming and going at all hours looked, to me, more like long-term budget renters than travellers, though I can’t say for sure. They were loud and rude, arguing in the hallway. I wouldn’t have stayed another night if I’d booked more. The room was clean, but badly dated and needed serious updating. The lighting was poor, the furniture was sparse and old, and the TV remote couldn’t control the volume or power, so I had to use the buttons on the TV. The window crank was broken and I couldn’t open it, so I had to run the loud wall AC for fresh air. I was only there for one night on a road trip. Spend a little more and stay elsewhere.

Small room, but comfortable and good value. We checked in late at night and the staff were very friendly. Tim Hortons is right behind the motel, so we walked over for coffee in the morning.
