Avon River Motel

I left because I didn’t feel safe. The area felt very sketchy, and the room doors only had button-style knobs, with no security locks. You could see outside light around the door frame, and I thought someone motivated could kick a door in. That was my biggest concern, though I could have slept on top of the bed rather than under the covers. I hate leaving a negative review, but hope this helps someone else decide. The bathroom and tub were very clean. The rest of the room was another story: it smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and dampness, the fridge exterior was stained and dirty, and the carpet looked so bad I wouldn’t take my shoes off. The sheets seemed clean, but weren’t made up neatly. The stained top bedspread was just draped over the bed. I’d paid at check-in, but after seeing the room and the area, I was lucky to find somewhere else to stay. I left the key in the room and took off, and didn’t go back to ask for a refund. The photos of the outdoor area look like some kind of rental setup, though it’s part of the motel.

The rooms were decent for the price. Still, the place gave me an eerie, uncomfortable feeling, so I changed my plans and stayed somewhere else.

The owner came for our key at 10:45. Outside my room looked like a dump, and they really should clean it up.

I stay here regularly and have never had an issue. I’ve made friends here, and nobody’s ever broken in or anything. It’s a little rough, but I like the country feel and the place has its own charm. The price is great if, like me, you’re a tradesman trying to save money. The owners are really nice and often stop to chat with us. Each to their own, though.
