Auberge Le Pomerol

We stayed here twice, four nights in total, and were happy with both rooms. The fourth-floor room was quite small and had a very small bed, but it was clean, everything worked, and the bathroom was especially nice. Our third-floor room was roomier and had a larger bed. The staff at the front desk were nice, and one woman was especially helpful with tourist information. It’s very convenient, right across from Berri-UQAM Metro station. There’s no breakfast now, though a lobby sign says there used to be one before the pandemic. It still seemed like good value. There’s a comfortable foyer by reception with a faux fireplace, and they kindly stored our suitcases for a few hours after checkout before we headed to the airport.

The room was spotless and smelled lovely, and the location made it easy for us to walk around and use public transit. The atmosphere was great, and they also pointed us to the best breakfast place ever. The booking website had made an error and said the room came with a spa bath, though only some rooms did. I arrived expecting one, but that room wasn’t available. The woman at the front desk managed to upgrade me to a better room with a jacuzzi tub, even though the error was the website’s. She didn’t have to do that, and it really made my trip special.

For a place to sleep while exploring Montreal, this is a good choice for the location and price. The hotel has charm and the front desk staff were very nice, especially Hien. She was patient and kind, and explained things really clearly. You might find somewhere more charming, but this one worked well for what I needed.

The location and service were excellent, and the modest breakfast was adequate. But the rooms were a bit odd. Our first room was underground with no windows, and some machinery kept whooshing all night. They were happy to move us, and the second room was much nicer, though it didn’t have a standing shower. The fire alarm also went off early in the morning. Apparently a guest had showered without turning on the fan, and it seems to happen almost daily. I don’t think I’ll stay here again.
