Blue Bell Inn

After a long drive, I checked in late at the Blue Bell Inn and was met by a front desk clerk who was welcoming, kind, and incredibly helpful. They took my dog without any questions, which made arriving so late much less stressful. You can tell they care about guests, including the four-legged ones. A lovely stop in Fort Nelson, BC, and I'd happily stay again.

The bedbug concern was the reason I spoke up. One was crawling on the bed, so I put a glass over it. Please see the pictures. The owner said room 104 had problems and that any bugs should be in rooms near it. The attendant told me there'd never been a complaint, but I found a review from a few months earlier mentioning bedbugs. This is a serious health concern, and the same cleanliness problems keep appearing in reviews from different people. Please address them properly. The place was dirty and the cleaning was very unsatisfactory. Google calls it a three-star hotel, but to me it doesn't meet even a two-star standard. I can't add another review or reply to the owner's response, so I'm adding this here. What a horrendous experience.

We arrived at the Blue Bell Inn around 10:30 pm on 11/27, because its website said it offered comfortable rooms. By 11 pm, we had told reception, which was inside the gas station convenience store, that the heater wasn't working. I was told to set the control between 27 and 30 C, but it still didn't work. The room phone was broken, so I called reception from my own phone and got no answer. When I walked over, nobody was there and the desk was closed. I tried the number on the door repeatedly, but there was no answer or voicemail, and the website reservation number couldn't reach anyone on site either. I emailed them and still haven't heard back. We were stuck in a cold room at -17F and couldn't sleep. It was too late, and the weather and road conditions were too bad to look for another hotel in that small town. Heating is a basic thing to provide. We contacted them about a refund and they never replied. Pathetic. Don't stay here.

All three rooms were filthy. The first smelled awful and had a toilet that didn't work. In the second, a huge ceiling bubble was filled with toilet water. The third reeked of cigarettes and couldn't be stayed in. At least the front desk staff were pleasant and helpful when we asked for our money back. We found a clean place in Fort Nelson for less that same night, thankfully. Don't risk your health or safety here.
