I regret trying to save a few dollars here. We spotted German cockroaches crawling on the bed, up the wall, and around the window, and left immediately. We fell asleep quickly the first night, so I can't say for sure whether they were there then, though I'm sure they were. The owner refused to refund the second night and didn't care when I said I'd notify the health unit. He said I had declined another room, so there'd be no refund. I'm pretty sure cockroaches don't recognize boundaries. In response to the owner's reply, it's clear to me that he answers every negative review with an attack instead of fixing the problems. Every word of his reply was a lie. I was there on a weekday, and asked for reimbursement because I wanted to leave early due to the roaches, not later. Check your own posted photos, too. There are photos of your windows there. 🤯 Still, thank you. I'll look more carefully at reviews from now on and avoid these kinds of cheap, sketchy hotels. This almost cost me a fortune in extermination fees!

We'd stayed here before and enjoyed it, and ironically ended up in the same room again. It's sad to see how much it has decayed over the past few years. The room smelled funky and felt very damp. In the morning, dew covered the inside of the windows, and all our things, including our clothes, were damp. There appeared to be mould on the windows and in the bathroom, even on the light fixtures above the sink. We'll look for somewhere else next time we're in the area.

Absolutely terrible. The room was nothing like the Expedia photos we booked from, and it was smelly and filthy. There was no continental breakfast, the staff were unfriendly, and dead flies were in both the bathroom sink and tub. Paint was peeling off the walls, and there was hardly any caulking around the tub, which is why I think it smelled of mold and mildew. You couldn't see the TV from the bed. I don't recommend this place.

The pool was the only part we enjoyed. Our room was number 30, facing the pool, and smelled foul as soon as we went in. The A/C was very loud, and there were spiders and little bugs everywhere. The bathroom had what looked like mold painted over, no fan, and just a window for ventilation. The website said the rooms had been upgraded, but we ended up with carpet. I tried to grin and bear it for the first night. The next morning we went out and enjoyed Gananoque's hospitality, but all day I kept getting whiffs of mildew from my own clothes after just ONE night in that room. I couldn't imagine staying longer, so we checked out early and went home instead of spending another night there. All our clothes are going straight into the washing machine when we get home. The stench is unbearable.

When I was a kid, we used to stay here, and I remember it being much more posh. We loved the swimming pool back then. Now it looks like nothing has changed since the early 80s. The place is quite rundown, and a quiet location is about the only benefit. The air conditioner was horribly noisy. It was mounted in a window at the back of the room, blowing right at the bed, and we couldn't control where the air went. We could only block it by closing the curtains over it. The toilet plugged up right away, and there wasn't a plunger in the room. The shower didn't work properly either: its faucet handles were backwards and upside down, so hot water came out cold and cold came out hot. To turn it on, we had to screw the handle outwards. The neighbours showered too, and then our room had no hot water left, so I suspect the tanks aren't big enough for all the rooms. The outdoor pool looks rundown. I didn't see the indoor pool, but our next door neighbor said it was also rather unseemly, and they chose not to use it. This place is adequate, but nostalgia won't make the stay enjoyable.
