The stay left us disappointed after we’d been looking forward to a break from everyday life. We had booked a king bed and private bathroom the day before, but the bathroom was down the hall, and my wife wasn’t happy. When we got back from dinner late that evening, the sheets were saturated with Febreze and clearly hadn’t been changed. There was long dark hair and possible blood or another stain on my pillow, mascara bits on the bed sheet, and dust bunnies throughout the room. It was too late to do anything, so we just put up with it and went to bed. We didn’t sleep. The bathroom itself was tidy, but the mirror and faucet had toothpaste marks, and there was pubic hair and dust by the tub and around the floor. We’d arrived around 3:20 PM, during the stated 3 to 7 check-in window, after a boat tour to Bolt Castle. The front door was locked and nobody was there. A note said to go in and call the owner, who’d be home by 3. We didn’t know our room, and after trying to call for an hour, plus texting and leaving voicemails, got no answer. We went hiking and changed in the car instead. Later the owner called, saying he’d been stuck in traffic with his phone on mute, and apologized. Around 6, Ted arrived at the same time we did. He was very welcoming and said he’d been held up at his restaurant. He suggested places for dinner and things to do. The building has charm but looked tired and needed updating, and the grounds needed weeding. The pond is gorgeous, and the gardens have a lot of potential. The next morning Ted made a great breakfast and suggested a couple of nice hiking trails. I got the impression this B&B used to be run by two people and is now down to one. That may explain how busy the owner is, but the maintenance and cleanliness still need attention. The problems compounded enough that we wanted to cancel and leave, but it was late and we were two hours from home. I hate to criticize a small business, and Ted is a nice man. I’m leaving feedback in hopes things improve. Best of luck to him.

Ted was a wonderful host, and breakfast was incredibly delicious. We always had interesting conversation. Thanks again, Ted, for such a great stay.

Ted and Chris were so friendly and knew the area well, and we had a fantastic stay at Turtle Island. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options. Chris has just opened The Boathouse Creamery by the river, and the ice cream there is awesome. Definitely give it a try!

We stayed in the Cayuga room on the way to Montreal, mainly to catch the July 4 fireworks cruise. The dock was a five-minute walk away. Our hosts were welcoming and knew the area well, and breakfast was fantastic, made with fresh, healthy ingredients. I didn’t get a photo of the parfait, but it was really good and full of fresh fruit. The room was on the small side, as you’d expect in an old house, but it was clean, comfortable, and cool. There were nice shared spaces upstairs in the Den and on the main floor in the dining, family, and TV room, plus a balcony, so we never felt cramped. The house had pleasant, interesting Indigenous and Canadiana decor and art, and my daughter was mesmerized by the Koi pond out front. Highly recommended for couples or a family of three if the child is very young.

We rented the whole house for a week in July with my family, and it felt like home. Ted was a great host and an advocate for the region, with useful advice on what to see and when to go. The breakfasts were great too. We had a wonderful stay.
