The parking arrangements added another headache: when the lot was full in the evening, we were told to leave the car in a spot out front and move it later if a space opened up. That was an unreasonable hassle on top of the other problems. Our assigned room clearly hadn’t been prepared for guests. It was messy and unclean, and there was no conditioner. The hairdryer looked like something from the 1990s and seemed as if it had never been cleaned, which felt unhygienic. We left the “please clean” sign and a generous tip on the first day, but came back to a room that hadn’t been touched. The lack of basic cleanliness, outdated amenities, and poor service made for a deeply disappointing stay. I’d advise people to think twice before booking.

I had a great time at the on-site Tétû Taverne Gaspésienne, with fresh local seafood, bay views, and a cozy outdoor fireplace. The fitness room and cinema arcade were fun extras after exploring the Gaspé Peninsula, and Gaspé Cathedral and Birthplace of Canada are easy to reach. Hôtel Baker has been a 4-star icon since 1881, right in the center of town overlooking the bay. It’s pet-friendly, with 70 spacious rooms, comfortable beds, free WiFi, and modern amenities. There’s also an adjacent golf course and electric car charging. Spotless, centrally located, and good value, it’s a great base for coastal adventures!

As someone with lots of allergies, I rarely sleep well in hotels because of dust and mold, but I slept very comfortably here and the air quality was excellent. The room was exceptionally clean, even in dark corners behind the beds and TV, with no dust or mold that I could find. I’ve traveled to every continent, and this is one of the cleanest hotel rooms I’ve seen. The finish is basic and modern, with plenty of wood, so it seems easy to keep clean.

The only issue was the shower, which drained poorly, so you had to be careful. The hotel is a short walk from town, though the hill back up is steep. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and made each day, and the air conditioning worked really well. Breakfast at the tavern was very good. Pretty good hotel!
