The sunsets and views here are out of this world, and the location makes it easy to get anywhere on Cape Breton Island. No wonder Alexander Graham Bell, 3 US Presidents, and our own first Prime Minister Sir John A MacDonald chose to stay here. It would be a great spot for a wedding or family reunion. Our stay was one we’ll talk about for years. David, the owner, is amazing, and the caretakers were so obliging. The accommodations were top notch, and we can’t wait to come back for a summer stay next year.

We were in room 5, one of the front corner rooms, and windows on two sides opened toward the water. Falling asleep to the waves for five nights was lovely. The room had great antique furniture, a comfortable bed, plenty of space, and its own private bathroom with excellent shower pressure. The whole place was very clean, and the kitchen was large and equipped with all the modern necessities. I’d definitely recommend this historic hotel.

The incident left my family very stressed, and I didn’t feel safe at the property. When we arrived for our wedding in Aug ‘19, the caretakers had set up a large camper trailer and parked two vehicles on the lawn where my wife had spent months planning to hold the wedding. I asked if they could move the vehicles for the day. One caretaker, Elaine, got very angry and threatened to cancel our reservation. After I went back inside to my family, Elaine came onto the property without consent and yelled insults at me in front of young children. We contacted the property manager, who told the caretakers to move the vehicles. The website pictures should be updated to show the camper trailer and vehicles on the lawn so customers know what they’re buying.

The Inn is a beautiful building, and the hosts are friendly and do a great job. We came late in the fall in the previous season, when the leaves were still good and the nearby Cabot Trail was uncrowded. I’m looking forward to visiting this lesser known corner of Cape Breton again.

We spent two days here and loved hearing the waves. The hosts are very nice, and our room was well appointed, with a huge claw foot tub. If you’re visiting the Hoghland museum, I’d recommend staying here since it suits the feel.
